TRAVELS OF DURSMIRG        VOLUME IV
THE ROGUES OF ST. AUGUSTINE AND OTHER SOCIAL MISFITS
                                                                 Chapter 29
                                                  THE SOUTHERN RED-NECK

I will make a composite of these strange creatures as we saw them and some of the experiences we had living down
in the “Heart of Dixie”, also known by some as St. Augustine, Georgia.
“The good old boys” and “The beer bottle busting Bubbas” These beer bellied, unshaven sweat stained stinking
creatures had to be seen in their pick-um-up truck with giant oversized knobby tires. The truck frame would be
jacked up so far that it resembled a pin headed big foot.
In order to qualify as a Bubba you had to have a pick-up truck sporting a “dawg” cage in back filled with snapping,
snarling, surly and barking hunting hounds…the scruffier and nastier the better.
The rebellious “Stars and Bars” confederate army flag was always pasted or flying somewhere on their knobby tired
truck with its conspicuous rear window gun-rack sporting a weapon of two.
For crudeness here is a sample of Red Neck guests we had fed and entertained at our home; after eating our food,
drinking our booze and then sleeping in our bed they would then bitch about our hospitality.
Another standard treatment we got from these uncouth vulgar guests usually after they had just made pigs of
themselves stuffing gluttonous quantities of our food and drink was to tell us emphatically just how very low-God-
damn-down and rotten those god-damn no-good for nothing Yankees were.
In their next breath usually coupled with an unexcused burp and belch and fart came their left handed derogatory
proclamation calling us Yankees.
As much as we deplore this next word I must use it to tell the following story.
The hate-mongering red-necks loved this one; first you would be told with a spiteful evil eyed sneer that there was
only one thing on earth lower than a Nigger and that was a Gaud-damn Yankee…Yankee!
Of course anyone that talked “funny” without a southern drawl was always referred to as a “Gaud-dam Yankee” and
that was all it took to drive this class into a hateful haranguing   rage.
I certainly don’t have to put any names with these stories because those people know exactly who they are and it isn’
t worth the effort to in anyway dignify their behavior by changing the names in the stories so I will leave them out.
My only comment was that after living and doing business down in the “Heart of Dixie” for 22 years that the only
Nigger I ever meet was white.
I must tell how my dear old friend Ray Doby responded to these kinds of racial depravities; He used to say, “May all
of your Gods be black!” Ray was of course an avowed atheist.
We had a friend from Miami, who when hearing these red-necks despicable comments would always call them
“Yankees”, which drove them wild.
The Southern red-neck made up a very small portion of the down south population but their “in-your –face”
presence was obnoxious, flaunting symbols of their hate monger groups that they represented like the Knights of
the Ku-Klux Klan, Skin heads and the Nazis.
The “Stars and Bars” flag of the Confederacy is used exactly the same way as the German Nazis brandished their
Swastika and is meant to be the Red-Neck put-down to their enemies such as; the Yankees, blacks, Jews, Catholics,
gays and any minority with dark skin, black hair, brown eyes or that have a foreign accent…if you weren’t a WASP
you were the enemy.
These were real people and a part of the southern community.

This is the flag of the CSA or Confederate
States of America. It has become world
renowned as a symbol of defiance and you are
bound to see it almost anywhere on bumper
stickers and flags flying far and wide.
The societal amalgamation of misfits is a
universally dispersed phenomenon found in
nearly all countries of the world and in all eras
in history.
Many hate groups use this flag as their rallying
emblem so it has turned out to be despised by
the victimized minorities who see it the same as
the Nazi swastika was seen by the persecuted
victims of the Third Reich.
