TRAVELS OF DURSMIRG VOLUME IV THE ROGUES OF ST. AUGUSTINE AND OTHER SOCIAL MISFITS
PROLOGUE THE ROGUES OF ST. AUGUSTINE AND OTHER SOCIAL MISFITS
“I AM GOING WHERE THE WIND BLOWS, WHEN THE SPIRIT MOVES ME AND THE PRICE IS RIGHT”
Some of the names are fictitious to protect the guilty. Reading between the lines could be a dangerous place to look for the truth. Some of the following story might be true!
Here in Volume 4 of Travels of Dursmirg you will meet the amalgamation of characters and ghosts that have haunted St. Augustine for more than four centuries of its convoluted history under many flags.
First a brief recap of our escape, beginning with Volume 1 of Travels of Dursmirg, when by a strange string of mysterious circumstances our destiny drew us inexplicitly to St. Augustine. A dedicated and determined joint venture by Jane and I saw our home designed and built 46 foot sailboat Dursmirg launched June 22, 1972…The television and radio stations plus 2000 spectators turned out to witness the sinking…some may have been disappointed.
Volume 1 is the story of our enthusiastic inspirational dreams fulfilled that brought Jane and I to a fresh new horizon of our lives at a tender young age. We took the necessary steps to enter that new world of unknowns. In the end our rewards were paid back to us in compounded remunerations a thousand times greater than our laborious hard work.
Volume 2, Summers at Daufuskie and the Sea Islands: We entered a strange new environment beyond the fringe in a world of ox carts and isolated islands. .
Volume 3, Down in the Florida Keys, Swinging in a Summer Breeze: Our winters spent in unhurried old south Florida when Arab oil embargos stalled the world’s economy and we became the winners.
Volume 4, The Rogues of St. Augustine and Other Social Misfits: Here you will find our favorite sailing seafood recipes along with wine making and even the letters that Jane wrote to her parents of our adventures. From the logbook of Dursmirg you will meet the colorful rogues and social misfits that made St. Augustine that remarkably rare and atypically bizarre oddity. One of my favorite saying in our adventuresome days gone by was: “Anywhere I am with Jane, I am home.”
So, come dream a dream with us; Dreaming and planning of departure are far more desirable to me than actually arriving. The inspiration for departing came to me at a very early age. Dreams can be beautiful, they can be rewarding and they can be fulfilling, but if not carried to fruition they will haunt and stab your remorseful soul. Dreams, like seeds that can take root, sprout and all that is needed is care and nurturing to mature.
